Each year St John of God's (SJG) special-care nursery cares for more than 200 unwell and premature babies. As a level-two nursery it is equipped and staffed to provide all the specialised care needed for babies, except when full ventilation or urgent surgery is required.

The Life, Marriage and Family Office (LMF) recently distributed a brochure to parishes in the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne entitled ‘Marriage and same-sex unions – are they the same?’ With parliamentarians currently directed to seek their constituents’ views on this issue, the LMF Office is encouraging us to express our views to our representatives. The following article is an edited version of a document which explains why male/female marriage is foundational to society. The document was developed by an inter-denominational group and is endorsed by Archbishop Hart along with a number of other Catholic bishops from around the country.

Over the weekend of Friday 29 to Sunday 31 October 220 descendants of George and Annie Reed gathered for the Reed Family reunion in the quaint guesthouse 'Whitehall' in the historic borough of Queenscliff. Though there were no historical connections with Queenscliff, the modern connections are strong and together with the centrality of the venue for family members made the choice of site ideal.

Last night in Melbourne, Archbishop Denis Hart was joined by Bishop Terry Brady, Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney and presently the Apostolic Administrator of Wilcannia-Forbes and member of the Bishops Commission for Pastoral Life, lay family movements and other Church leaders in a concrete demonstration of their support for marriage and family.
