Since Pentecost Sunday, changes to the Mass have begun to be implemented in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. The official starting date for using the new translation and the new Mass settings is 1 November.

A new translation of the words of the Mass means there will be some new translations of familiar responses. These changes will be implemented in the Archdiocese of Melbourne from Pentecost Sunday, 12 June. They will be available in churches on a people’s Mass card.

This year is the year of changes to the Mass. A new translation of the words of the Mass – a third edition of the Roman Missal – means there will be some new words for us to say and new music too. The familiar framework of the Mass remains the same. The first of November is the official starting date for using the new translation and the new Mass settings.

Approval for English text of The Roman Missal

Bishop Arthur Roche, Chairman of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy, has welcomed the announcement of the approval by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments of the definitive English text of the Third Edition of The Roman Missal.
