DURING Pope Francis' General Audience in St Peter's Square this week, he spoke of the Church's need for a renewed trust in the Holy Spirit who he said, "is the real engine of evangelisation in our lives" and "be guided by Him...witnessing the Gospel with courage, becoming instruments in our world of God's unity and communion."

Vatican Year book reveals Church statistics

THE Vatican has published its new Pontifical Yearbook. The 2012 volume includes all statistics related to the Church, based on data gathered back in 2011. The new figures show that there were 1.2 billion Catholics worldwide in 2011, which is 1.5% more than the year before.
