St Benedict's celebrates 60th Anniversary

ST Benedict’s Parish, Burwood, celebrated its 60th anniversary, on Sunday 22 July.

Past and present parishioners filled the church for the 10am Mass, which was celebrated by parish priest Fr David Tremble MGL, with concelebrants Fr Vincent Widi MGL and Fr Chris Ryan MGL.

Following the Mass, members of the parish community gathered in the parish hall for a celebratory luncheon.

Guests enjoyed concert items performed by St Benedict’s Primary School children from Prep to Year 2.

Long-time parishioner Pat MacCormack shared her memories of past parish life.
Current parishioner Kath Armstrong cut the celebratory cake, before the entertainment continued, with a sing-a-long led by Marcia Clohesy and a group of parish musicians.

Fr Tremble said it was a wonderful celebration for the parish: “At St Benedict’s, we are entering into a time of grace. In fact, we are celebrating our 60th year in the Year of Grace. Like our Patron St Benedict who emerged from the solitude of Subiaco to form communities of prayer, welcome and loving service, we too have emerged from the Depression years and paddocks of Burwood to form communities of prayer, welcome and loving service. Personally and communally we draw from our prayer life nurtured by the sacraments and Eucharistic Adoration to bring loving service to those around us and beyond - especially our children and youth and our seniors.”
