St Mark's Hope Cafe, Fawkner
Friday 10 August 2012
“Whatsoever you do to the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do unto me.” Mt.25:40
THIS word of God is reflected every Thursday from 6pm to 8pm at Hope Café. The volunteers of St. Mark’s parish come alive in many ways to bring life, friendship and joy to our guests.
The volunteers enjoy being involved in this beautiful ministry. Some of us provide freshly cooked food for the night, others donate necessary food and drink. Time is devoted weekly, fortnightly or monthly. In order to further reach out, one of our parishioners drives his personal minivan to the local motels. It is there that we knock on doors, picking up and transporting people to Hope Café for the night and later return them home.
Hope Café aims to give all of God’s children hope through conversation and full stomachs. God works through all of us in His own special way. We respond by sitting with our guests and enjoying a fulfilling discussion. Or we may serve the food while others may mind children in the games room.
Hope Café has been largely blessed with not only the volunteering parishioners from St. Mark’s, but also individuals from other parishes.
With joyful dedication and commitment we have reached out to many visitors for over a year. A few other organisations have been touched and have become collaborators by donating weekly in their own ways. Hope café feeds those in need with not only nutritional food, but with love and hope.
Congratulations volunteers! Keep up the good work.
To God be all the glory and praise.
