The brother and sister, who tended to their families’ sheep with their cousin Lucia dos Santos in the fields of Fatima, Portugal, witnessed the apparitions of Mary, now commonly known as Our Lady of Fatima.

He became the ‘beloved disciple’ and the only one of the Twelve who did not forsake the Saviour in the hour of Jesus’ Passion. St John's feast day is 27 December.
