Workshop: Liturgy of the Word with Children

Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.
—Matt 19:14

The Liturgy of the Word with Children is truly a celebration of Liturgy. It is a prayerful celebration of God’s Word. It is a reflection on the way we live our lives in the light of God’s Word. It is not a lesson, nor simply an activity time with young children. This workshop explores the liturgical principles underpinning this ministry, practical strategies and creative techniques for sharing the good news with children and is ideal for parish liturgy teams, parent groups, classroom/student teachers and all those serving or interested in bringing liturgy alive for children.

In his exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, Pope Francis describes the parish as “an environment for hearing God’s word, for growth in the Christian life, for dialogue, proclamation, charitable outreach, worship and celebration ... the parish encourages and trains its members to be evangelisers.” To support parishes in this mission, the Archbishop's Office for Evangelisation offers a number of liturgical formation workshops throughout the year.
This session is being hosted by St Mary's Parish Greensborough and is open to other parishes in and around the area. The session will be facilitated by Mary Ryan (Coordinator, Adult Faith Formation & Parish Liaison) and is ideal for parents, parishioners, school staff and all those serving or interested in this important parish ministry.
