On the 18th Oct, 2017 members of the three communities came together in Lisieux Place to be introduced to the compulsory minimum standards regarding child safety in our parish.
Fr Linh had made an impassioned plea at masses the week before for all to consider themselves invited and there was good representation by about 20 parishioners. The evening was run by Margaret Mahoney, together with Bill Dobson, as they have been involved with the development of the Child Safe Policy since its inception and acceptance into parish life. And honestly, it was quite an eyeopener to all as we began to fully realise the implications for each and every parishioner. If we value the mental, emotional and physical safety of our children (and indeed, of all our marginalised groups) then we need to become aware of the standards that must be put in place to ensure that safety.
All Parishioners who have contact with children, or responsibility for children, will be invited to come to training sessions before the year is ended. It is an invitation but the Professional Standards group under Margaret's direction, together with Fr Linh, will be anticipating and indeed expecting all to take up the invitation and to set aside the time to attend. If you would like more information, you should be able to identify someone from the photos below to speak to and to ask questions of.
