CENTRAL DEANERY CELEBRATES
MESSAGE STICK

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Pope John
Paul II's historic address to the Indigenous Community of Australia in 1986, the Central Deanery held an evening at Bell's Hotel, South Melbourne on Tuesday 10th October 2006. The evening was addressed by Tristan Mungatopi, a young man from the Tiwi Islands (north of Darwin),currently studying in Melbourne with a special interest in indigenous languages. Tristan has been heavily involved with the Message Stick Relay in the Melbourne Archdiocese, and participated in the 20th anniversary Mass in Alice Springs, and the National Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Catholic Council Conference NATSICC held 2- 7 October 2006 [more on NATSICC here]
