recently opened and blessed the new Billings LIFE Centre in a moving
ceremony. Noting the approaching 40th anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s
Encyclical Letter on Human Life, 'Humanae Vitae', Archbishop Hart paid
tribute to: "…the remarkable leadership provided by Doctors John and
Evelyn Billings and their collaborators over so many years, in which
faithfulness to the Magisterium and a clear philosophical understanding
of the needs of couples is so well combined."

Brother Joseph Neonbasu MGL, from Indonesia’s West Timor, took his
perpetual vows within the Missionaries of God’s Love (MGL) on Saturday
21 June 2008 at St Benedict Church, Narrabundah, Canberra. He is the
first to join the MGL from Indonesia, and the first religious brother
from overseas to reach the stage of final vows. He will be portrayed as
a pioneer from Indonesia in the vocation history of the MGL.

Jesus once told a parable about a Master who gave each of his
servants a gold coin saying, “See what you can earn with this while I
am away.” He then went on to tell how some of the servants had worked
hard at multiplying the money and gave him back good return, but one
servant buried the coin to keep it safe and it was of no use to anyone.
(Luke 19:11-27)
As part of the Leadership Program run at St.
Damian’s in Term 1 this year, our 5/6 students heard and discussed this
reading from Luke.

Arts has failed to deliver the strong recommendations needed to address
the sexualisation of children, in its inquiry report tabled today.
The Committee’s recommendations don’t go far enough. The advertising industry needed a big shake up - it didn’t get it.

Benedict XVI will confer the
pallium on 43 metropolitan archbishops in a traditional ceremony on the
feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, the first day of the Pauline Jubilee Year.
The
pallium, worn by the Pope and archbishops, symbolizes the lost sheep
that is found again, carried on the shoulders of the Good Shepherd, and
the Lamb crucified for the salvation of humanity. It also symbolizes,
in part, the Pope's concession of authority and communion to heads of
major local Churches.
