Wednesday 4 April 2007 World Youth Day 2008 (WYD08) today invited performers and creative artists from around Australia and the world to apply to participate in its Youth Festival next year.
The three-day Youth Festival takes place in the middle of WYD08 week - 15-20 July 2008 – and will feature music, performing arts, visual art exhibitions, debate, film, community gatherings, street performers, workshops and a vocations expo. |

Caritas Australia’s partners are currently on the ground in the affected islands of the Western province of the Solomon Islands assessing the damage and providing immediate assistance to those affected by the recent tsunami. Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands and the Solomon Islands government together with the Red Cross are leading the immediate rescue and emergency response. |

John Billings said he would give three months to the work. On Sunday evening, 1 April 2007, John James Billings died, aged 89, having given the last 54 years of his life to this work. |

Zimbabwe’s Catholic Bishops have appealed to the government of President Robert Mugabe to hear the cry of the people. Inflation in Zimbabwe has surpassed 1600 per cent, the highest in the world, and eight in every 10 Zimbabweans have no meaningful source of income. Economic meltdown has reduced many people to hopelessness as President Mugabe continues his iron rule that has shocked the world in recent weeks. |

The findings of the Disconnected Catholics research project were presented in summary form to the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference at its November 2006 meeting.
