Litteræ Catholicæ  (‘Catholic Writings’) aims to bring people together, as a new Catholic social club in Melbourne, to read and discuss Catholic books and writings.

The sessions will be initially led by David Birch (Professor of Communication, Deakin University and Associate Editor of The Priest. The Journal of the Australian Confraternity of Catholic Clergy). We will meet twice a month in the South Melbourne home of Mrs Helena Bielecki.

Our first get together will be held on Friday 12 September 2008, and the second on Friday 26th September at 7.00pm. Following that we will meet every second and fourth Friday of the month. Helena will be our hostess and refreshments with light hot food will be provided. We suggest a contribution of $10.00 per session to cover hospitality and any photocopied materials which may be needed.

Some suggested authors for 2008 will include:Thomas à Kempis, Hilaire Belloc, G.K.Chesterton,  Rumer Godden, Graham Greene, Thomas Keneally, Ronald Knox, Thomas Merton, John Henry Cardinal Newman, Pope Benedict XVI, Pope Paul VI, Psalm 138,  St Augustine, St. Theresa of Avila, Edith Stein (St.Theresa Benedicta of the Cross), Francis Thompson and J.R.R. Tolkien.
