A lecture by renowned missiologist Dr Roger Schroeder SVD is the Professor of Intercultural Ministries and holder of the Bishop Francis X Ford chair of Catholic Missiology at the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

Dr Schroeder is the author of the recently published 'What is the Mission of the Church?' and co-author of 'Constants in Context: A Theology of Mission for Today'.

The lecture was held at the Cardinal Knox Centre, East Melbourne on Thursday 8 October. The event marked the launch of World Mission Month in the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

The 2009 Rerum Novarum lecture was given by Columban priest Fr Charles Rue ssc, at the Cardinal Knox Centre, East Melbourne on Thursday 24 September.

It was followed by the Melbourne launch of the 2009 Australian Catholic Bishops’ Social Justice Sunday Statement by Fr Tony Kerin, Episcopal Vicar for Justice & Social Service.

On 14 August 2009, the Perth Supreme Court confirmed the right of Perth quadriplegic Christian Rossiter to refuse tube feeding. Wanting to die, Mr Rossiter had told his carers to stop giving him food.

Catholic Communications Melbourne spoke to Fr Kevin McGovern of the Caroline Chisholm Centre for Health Ethics about tube feeding and ‘quality of life' decisions.

The tragedies of RU-486 Print E-mail

On 11 August 2009, Marie Stopes International, one of the largest abortion providers in the world, was given permission by the Therapeutic Goods Administration to prescribe the abortion drug RU486 at its clinics throughout NSW, Victoria, WA and the ACT.

As a result, women who are less than nine weeks pregnant will be able to terminate their pregnancies and the life of their child using RU-486.

Catholic Communications Melbourne recently spoke with Marcia Riordan, Executive Director of the Archdiocese's Life Marriage and Family Office on RU486.
