Feasts and Seasons

Year C 2018 - 2019 - The Year of  Luke's Gospel

We follow a calendar based on a cycle of liturgical seasons including feasts and saints’ days

Advent

The Church Year began on the 2nd December 2018, the First Sunday of Advent.  It is a period covering the four Sundays before Christmas during which we prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth.

Christmas

The Christmas Season begins Christmas Day Tuesday 25th December 2018 and concludes on Monday 7th January 2019.  Sunday 1st January 2019 is the Feast of Mary, Mother of God. The Epiphany is celebrated on Sunday 6th January 2019 and Ordinary Time begins on Monday 14th January 2019 and ending on Shrove Tuesday 5th March.

Lent

Ash Wednesday is 6th March and begins the 40 days of Lent which are a time of preparation for the Celebration of Easter. In this time of penance we try to give more depth to our prayer and grow in compassion through fasting, self-denial and generosity.  Palm/Passion Sunday is on 14th April and marks the beginning of Holy Week:
