Sr Melanie Edwards MGL

As Missionaries of God's Love, we seek to bring the love of God to all people, particularly the young, the marginalised and those unfamiliar with the gospel. Moving under the grace of the Holy Spirit and the Charismatic Renewal, we seek to lead people to a rich personal relationship with Jesus.

Yet this is only possible through our own intimate relationship with Jesus, which is nourished by a solid commitment to both personal prayer and prayer in common. In fact, we describe ourselves as ‘contemplatives in action.' Our prayer is strongly Eucharistic -with daily Mass and Adoration. Our prayer is also charismatic. The prime importance placed on nurturing our own relationship with Jesus is part of what initially attracted me to the MGL Sisters around six years ago.

An experience of the love of Jesus in a deeply personal way awakened in me the desire to give myself totally to him through the gift of consecrated life. As MGL's, we live this out through our vows of poverty, chastity and obedience in the context of prayer, sisterhood and mission. Our way of life is a precious gift, and I recall that in my first year I had a realisation that I didn't know it was possible to be this happy... and I can honestly say I still feel that way today.

It is a privilege to meet so many people from different walks of life, and to share in some part of their journey with them. To those discerning their vocation, I would simply say ‘Go for it!' - you have nothing to lose. Don't be afraid, just talk to people, and most of all PRAY - ask Jesus what he wants for your life. You can be sure that he will not disappoint you.
