Reflection by Rev. Charles Balnaves, Ordained 27th October 2012
Then he was told, "Go out and stand on the mountain before Yahweh" ... a light murmuring sound. ... Then a voice came to him, which said, "What are you doing here, Charles?" 1Kg 19:11-13. As I reflect back on my life I can see that each major decision was accompanied by a moment such as that I quote above, with thanks to Elijah for his clear insight.

Welcome from Archbishop Hart

Welcome to the website for the Catholic Vocations Office for the Archdiocese of Melbourne.

On this website you will find information about the different Christian vocations, helpful articles about discerning what God is calling you to, vocations videos, prayers, suggested reading and other links, testimonies from single people, married couples, consecrated men and women, deacons and priests, as well as answers to frequently asked questions and news about forthcoming Vocations Office events.

From this site you can also contact my Vocations Director, Rev Fr Binh Le, who will be happy to help you with any personal vocation discernment questions.

As Blessed John Henry Newman put it "God has created me to do Him some definite service." I feel sure that this website will be a good place for you to start the quest to find your vocation. May God bless you as you seek His Will for your life.

Welcome from Fr Binh Le

Welcome!

This website is designed for Catholics who are trying to discover what direction their life is going in and what plans God has for them.

It will help you to think and pray about your vocation and begin to understand where God is leading you in your life.

It answers many of the practical questions you may be asking: What are the different Catholic vocations? How does God guide us and speak to us? How can I be more open to my vocation and come to a decision?

It explains the Catholic vocations of single life, married life, consecrated life, the permanent diaconate and the priesthood and shows how you can know whether God might be calling you to one of them.

It is important to seek God's will and to be open to his plans. But there is a danger of becoming so anxious about your vocation, so caught up in a future that does not yet exist, that you forget about living the life that God has already given you. So yes, do put some time and effort into considering your vocation - be open, be generous, be brave. But at the same time be grateful for the person you are now, and for the work God has given you to do today.

May the Lord guide and bless you in your discernment journey, which is a wonderful and exciting adventure.
