Vocations Prayers

Dear God,
There are so many questions in my life I don't understand;
so many questions about the future I need to ask.
What is your plan for me?
What is the work you want me to do?

All I really know is that you love me.
Show me the road you want me to walk - to fulfilment, to happiness, to holiness.
And whatever it may be you are calling me to:
single life, marriage life, consecrated life or the ordained ministry,
please give me the strength to say yes,
and the grace to begin even now to prepare myself
for the challenge of a life spent with you,
in service and care of your people.

Loving Father,
I know you love me and have great plans for me.
Help me to walk in your love every day.
Show me and all your people your way and help us to listen to you.
I pray for all those you are calling to be priests, deacons, religious sisters and brothers.
May they respond in love to your call.
Please make my heart always ready to do what you want.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Lord Jesus,
You call me by name to tell me how much I am worth in your eyes.
May this whisper of your love also reach all my brothers and sisters.
Select from our midst priests who will guide your people;
religious who will be faithful witnesses to your love;
and lay ministers to lead the Church.
Open the hearts of your people to the challenge of living their love in the faithfulness of their lives.
Grant unity to all these disciples of your love.

Dear Jesus,
Help our families to imitate the love and unity of the Holy Family.
Help us to use our gifts for service to each other,
and strengthen our faith so that we may be witnesses of the Gospel.
Instill in parents a desire to offer a child to priesthood or religious life,
and grant our children a desire to serve the Church.
May young men become loving priests, husbands and fathers,
and young women find joy in religious life or as wives and mothers.
Help all of us, through our vocations in family life and Church life,
to grow in holiness and be worth of eternal life with you.
We ask this through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.

Dear God,
You have a great and loving plan for our world and for me.
I want to do my part in your plan.
Help me to see the signs that You give me.
Open my heart to respond to You.
Grant me the courage to follow your call.
Give me the strength to serve You and your people with generosity and love.

Lord, Jesus, Son of the Eternal Father and Mary Immaculate,
grant to our young people the generosity necessary to follow Your call
and the courage required to overcome all obstacles to their vocation.
Give the parents that faith, love and spirit of sacrifice
which will inspire them to offer their children to God's service
and to rejoice whenever one of their children is called to the priesthood and religious life.
Let your example and that of Your Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph
encourage both young people and parents and let Your grace sustain them.

Gracious and loving God,
Help the men and women of our parish to hear the call to serve in the Archdiocese of Melbourne.
Our needs are great and our people thirst for your presence.
Open the hearts of many, raise up faithful servants of the Gospel,
dedicated holy priests, sisters, brothers and deacons,
who will spend themselves for your people and their needs.
Bless those who are serving now with courage and perseverance.
Grant that many will be inspired by their example and faith.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

I thank you for the gifts you have given me,
especially for life, love, family and friends.
Help me to know myself better and to know my talents,
as I pray, study and decide on my life's work.
Help me to see and understand the path you open for me.
Help me to choose a life's work which will be in response to my potential and your love for me.
If I am being invited to follow you as a priest, brother or sister, missionary or lay consecrated,
give me a generous heart to respond to your challenging call
and the strength to follow you where you lead me.

Gracious God, Source of all life,
By our baptism you call us by name and invite us to fullness of life in you.
Bless each of us as we respond to your call to follow the Son.
May we encourage and support one another in discerning and living out our Christian vocation.
Help us to foster a culture of vocations in which your seed will bear much fruit.
We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.

O God,
Who enlightens the minds and inflames the hearts of the faithful by the Holy Spirit,
grant that through the same Spirit I may know my true vocation in life,
and may have the grace to follow if faithfully.
I ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord,
who I am privileged to receive into my heart and soul in Holy Communion.

Holy Spirit, eternal Spring of joy and peace,
It is You who open the heart and the mind to the divine call;
it is You who make effective every impetus towards good, towards truth, towards charity.
Open the hearts and minds of young men
so that a new flowering of holy vocations to the priesthood
may show forth the fidelity of your love,
and all may know Christ, the true life of the world
to offer to every human being the sure hope of eternal life.

Dear Father,
Shine your light upon me so that I may see my true vocation.
Give me the grace to hear your word and be an example to others of your love for us.
I pray for all in the priesthood, consecrated life, marriage and single life
and for all who are listening to your call,
that they may answer you in their vocation.
Thank you for sending your son Jesus - Lord of the Harvest - help me to follow His example.
May I freely, courageously and lovingly respond.

Heavenly Father,
Help us to respond to and live out our Mission in the Church.
Help all your people to know their vocation in life, and assist them to prepare for it.
For your greater glory, and for the service of your people, call many to be priests and religious.
Give those whom you call the grace to respond generously and to persevere faithfully.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Heavenly Father,
Your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send labourers in His vineyard.
We earnestly beg You to bless our Diocese and our world with many priests and religious men and women who will love You fervently, and gladly and courageously spend their lives in service to Your Son's Church under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
We pray that their lives may be always centred on our Eucharistic Lord;
that they may be always faithful to the Holy Father;
and that they may be devoted sons and daughters of Mary, our Mother,
in making you known and loved; and that all may attain Heaven.
Bless our families and our children and choose from our homes
those who You desire for this holy work.
We ask this in Jesus' name.

Lord of the harvest,
send holy priests and deacons who are zealous co-operators of the episcopal order
that they may sanctify and lead their brothers and sisters in the faith.
Call to religious life numerous and generous souls who offer their life
to the service of the Gospel.
Reawaken among lay people their commitment in life
so that collaborating with their pastors in the service of the ecclesial community,
they may cooperate in the mission of evangelization.
We pray, Lord, that you continue to bless and enrich your Church with the gift of vocations.
We pray that many may welcome your call with generous and faithful response,
continuously bring joy to the Church.

Lord Jesus,
up until now you have been quietly preparing me to be your disciple.
Now the time of preparation is ending.
I seem to hear you say to me, as once to Peter; "Will you also go away?"
You were saddened then by friends who failed you. But Peter did not fail.
"Lord," he said, "to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
I stand with Peter.
Through prayer and counsel, show me, Lord, where it is in your vineyard that you want me to serve. Then give me strength to be faithful.
Mary, Mother and Model, help me to respond in generous love to the call of your Divine Son.

God of my life,
I give you thanks and praise that I have life,
and that my life is filled with touches of your love.
You have given me a heart that wants to be happy,
and You have placed in me a desire to make a difference.
Quiet the fears and distractions of my heart long enough
for me to listen to the movement of Your Spirit, to hear your gentle invitation.
Reveal to me the choices that will make me happy.
Help me to discover my identity.
Let me understand how best to use the gifts You have so lovingly lavished upon me
in preparation for our journey together.
And give me the courage to choose You as You have chosen me.
Lord, let me know myself and let me know You.
In this is my happiness.

God, you have created me to do you some definite service:
You have committed some work to me which you have not committed to another.
I have my mission - I may never know it in this life, but I shall be told in the next.
Somehow I am necessary for your purposes. I have a part in the great work;
I am a link in a chain, a bond of connection between persons.
He has not created me for nothing. I shall do good, I shall do his work;
I shall be an angel of peace, a preacher of truth in my own place.
Fulfill your high purposes in me, I am here to serve you, to be yours.

Most High, Glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of our minds.
Give us a right faith, a firm hope and a perfect charity,
so that we may always and in all things act according to Your Holy Will.

O Great Saint Joseph,
you were completely obedient to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Obtain for me the grace to know the state of life
that God in His providence has chosen for me. Since my happiness on earth,
and perhaps even my final happiness in heaven, depends on this choice,
let me not be deceived in making it.
Obtain for me the light to know God's Will, to carry it out faithfully,
and to choose the vocation which will lead me to a happy eternity.
