WYD2016 Pilgrims Commissioned!
After months of preparation, three hundred young people from the dioceses of Ballarat, Melbourne, Sandhurst and Sale have been commissioned for their pilgrimage to World Youth Day in Krakow, Poland.
Archbishop Hart led the Commissioning Mass for Victorian pilgrims at St Patrick’s Cathedral on Sunday July 3, and reminded pilgrims that in visiting the home city of St John Paul II, they have been invited to experience the mercy of Christ. Polish Consul to Victoria, Dr George Luk shared the depth of Poland’s Christian identity and encouraged pilgrims to be inspired by the witness of Polish saints.
Following the Mass, excited pilgrims collected their pilgrim pack, including tickets, the green and gold Australian tshirt, and a prayer book inspired by the writings of St John Paul II.
The first group of Victorian pilgrims departs on July 18, travelling through Italy and Poland in the footsteps of St John Paul II before joining Pope Francis and millions of pilgrims in Krakow. Other Victorian pilgrims will be journeying through Greece on the trail of St Paul, or participating in the Days in the Diocese where they will be welcomed by families in the diocese of Przemysl.
