Melbourne Catholic Youth Games
As August looms around, the stampede of young people heading towards the Provence Centre at Mazenod College can be heard from all corners of Melbourne… from St. Peter Chanel, Deer Park to St. Leonard’s, Glen Waverley… St. Christopher’s in Syndal to St. John Vianney’s in Springvale North… St. Benedict’s, Burwood to Our Lady Help of Christians, Narre Warren… all racing towards the biggest competition of the year – the Melbourne Catholic Youth Games!
On Saturday 25th August, the 6th Melbourne Catholic Youth Games took place, bringing together youth groups from around the Archdiocese of Melbourne for a day of sports, friendly competition and fun! It was an action-packed day with a number of sports including volleyball, dodgeball, basketball, soccer and table tennis as well as UNO and Chess! The spirit of competition was in the air as youth groups all worked together to try and knock off the reigning champions, Elevate (St. Christopher’s, Syndal) from the top position! And after an epic battle, the final victorious team was the mighty SJV Youth (St. John Vianney’s, Springvale North).
Overall, the day was a brilliant way to bring together a number of different communities and parishes in the spirit of this Year of Youth, coming together to form the Body of Christ through the teamwork and sportsmanship shown out on the court, as well as celebrating Eucharist together to end of the night with Fr. Christian Fini OMI and Fr. John Sherman OMI. To keep up to date with the latest information about the next Melbourne Catholic Youth Games, check out www.facebook.com/melbournecatholicyouthgames.
