Youth Mental Health First Aid Course
Every year in Australia, 1 in 4 young people have the symptoms for a diagnosis of anxiety or depression. A youth ministry leader may be the first trusted adult a young person seeks for help.
The Archdiocesan Office for Youth is supporting youth minister to respond to mental health issues in young people by offering the Youth Mental Health First Aid Course, presented by accredited instructors from Ultimate Youth Worker.
The 14-hour course teaches adult youth ministry leaders how to assist adolescents who are developing a mental illness, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves. Participants will learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of common and disabling mental health problems in young people, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.
THIS COURSE HAS BEEN RUN FOR 2018, WE LOOK FORWARD TO RUNNING IT AGAIN IN 2019. TO STAY INFORMED, WHY NOT SUBSCRIBE TO OUR YOUTH LEADER UPDATE - A LINK CAN BE FOUND ON OUR HOMEPAGE
