Prayerful greetings to you.
It gives me great joy to share the good news of the Melbourne Catholic Archbishop’s Charitable Fund (Fund) 2018 grant awards. The list of the outstanding Catholic charities receiving the grants to help carry out God’s work, are on the reverse of this letter.
Since 1980, thanks to the spirit of generosity and commitment from our Catholic community here in the Archdiocese of Melbourne, the Fund has proudly supported many charities. With Melbourne’s population now in excess of 4 million and rapidly growing, our community needs are increasingly complex and extensive, and continually requiring additional support.
One story I’d like to relate concerns an elderly gentleman Geoff, who received our help last year. Geoff had been living on his own and had been feeling lonely and vulnerable, but when provided with a new unit from the Little Sisters of the Poor, his life immediately changed for the better. The Fund supported the ‘Little Sisters’ to build a number of independent living units for our elderly poor of Melbourne. Geoff remarked that “this place is truly a gift from God”. I’m delighted to report he’s now flourishing.
He knows he will never be left alone. In his words, “it is simply fabulous living here. I have someone to talk to every day.” Geoff feels blessed to be part of this wonderful home and family.
Sadly, thousands of our brothers and sisters in the Archdiocese continue to be affected by the societal challenges of homelessness, poverty, loneliness, disability, mental illness, trauma and loss.
In these cases, some people simply need a helping hand, and a second chance in life. Your support will be instrumental in bringing the new lease of life that’s often needed.
“I am blessed to encounter people every day who benefit from the generosity of others, and I express my deep gratitude and heartfelt thanks for such support”.
2018 has been the beginning of a journey for us to expand the Fund to better help those in need in our community. I extend an invitation to you to support our Opening Appeal – 2018 to help sustain these vital charitable works.
I am inspired to share God’s love, bring hope and continue the legacy of making a positive difference in our community. Please join me and support theMelbourne Catholic Archbishop’s Charitable Fund and the Opening Appeal - 2018.
Thank you for your prayers and support.
Yours sincerely in Jesus Christ
Most Rev Peter A Comensoli
