ACU SHORT COURSE: "Listening to the Spirit: Towards the 2020 Plenary Council" (Wednesdays 1, 8, 15 & 22 August)

ACU is hosting a four-week short course on exploring the future of the Church in Australia, with a specific focus on the 2020 Plenary Council. Topics covered include the future of Catholic education (by Dr Paul Sharkey Director, Catholic Education Services, Catholic Education Melbourne), the mission of the Church in the 21st century, and a week four listening and dialogue session led by Dr Joel Hodge.
Several Parishioners are intending to get to several of the sessions so if you are interested you won't be alone! Seniors of course get their train travel subsidised, and those driving will be able to park in the Uni Car Park.

Our Young Men and Women - Confirmed in the Spirit

On Sunday July 22, 2018 Bishop Mark Edwards confirmed many of our young men and women of the Parish. Wonderful celebrations were held in  both Torquay and Grovedale and this year we are highlighting the Grovedale community.

Appearing on the 2020 Plenary Council Facebook page

"A group of parishioners in the Grovedale Parish in Melbourne were keen to get involved in the Plenary Council. So they sought, with the support of their parish priest Fr Linh Tran, the involvement by their local Bishop Mark Edwards OMI. Bishop Mark spent an hour with them and spurred their enthusiasm to get the rest of the parishioners on board to become part of the listening and dialogue process."
Our participation in the Listening and Dialogue Process for the Plenary Council has begun!

OZANAM Conversation: What it means to be a Catholic welfare organisation in a post Royal Commission World

In his preliminary Address, prior to joining into conversation with  Geraldine Doogue, Bishop Long commented on the crisis now facing the institutional church in Australia in the post-Royal Commission era, noting that it will be a catalyst for much needed change.
Bishop Long likened the situation facing the Church today to that of St Paul, after his experience on the road to Damascus. ‘Not only did Paul fall from his high horse,’ said the bishop, ‘but he entered, like the Church, his own period of darkness. He had to become humbled and docile to God’s word. He had to be led. So do we.’
